So I decided to try out the website builder version of WordPress. It’s a similar experience to running WordPress on your own hosting account with some limitations like no themes or plugins.

In this tutorial I instruct you on how to properly get setup with WordPress dot com from step one to step done. That means I show you how to properly create a free account and ignore WordPress’s various upsells. How to custom design your website using the block editor, how to make your website searchable and indexable and how to properly layout blog posts as well as create a logo and upload a favicon.

If you’ve been looking to get started with a free account with WordPress to start a blog or create a website, this complete tutorial is for you. Please use the timestamps below to help yourself navigate to any section of interest.

  1. David, great tutorial and lots of work on your part. Unfortunately these things change all the time and 2 years later a lot of options are gone. Can you make a short updated version?
    New subscriber. 🙂

  2. Mate I’ll be honest, you have put a lot of time in this video and talked about good points. But I expected a more detailed explanation about what rows and columns are, what on earth categories/blocks truly mean (i.e. how that effects the layout of things) and how you can change the positioning of assets on your page in any configuration out side of what the template provides. I find it extremely annoying trying to add simple elements and assets to a page and have them where I want them let alone creating separate pages.

    Just some friendly feedback.

  3. As a beginner I couldnt watch ths. You waste too much time on very unimportant or small details and why not show how to build from scratch instead of using a pre-existing template.

  4. you have "homepage" and "posts page"… under posts page, all I see under the dropdown is "homepage" I don't have option for blog? Ive tried several themes.
