OBS Studio 29 has been officially released. OBS Studio 29.0 adds support for AMD AV1 encoding for Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs and Intel AV1 encoding for Arc Graphics GPU systems, but it is currently only available for Windows and does not yet support Linux.

    • Note: CQP is available but not fully supported
  • Added support for Intel HEVC encoder on Windows
  • Added up compressor filter
  • Added a 3-band equalizer filter
  • Added support for native HEVC and ProRes encoders on macOS, including P010 and HDR
  • Added support for macOS Desk View
  • Added update channels for opting in to receive Windows beta/release candidates
    • Work is still in progress on the server side, updates via the built-in updater may not be available until late in OBS 30.0 beta
  • Websockets updated to 5.1.0 with many bug fixes, UI improvements and a new stream reconnect event.

tweaks and improvements

  • Memory limit for replay buffer is now set to 75% of installed system RAM instead of a fixed 8GB
  • Added media key support in Linux
  • Various improvements to NVIDIA’s video and audio filters, including Mask Refresh sliders and support for time processing, resulting in better quality masks
  • Improved Display Capture screen naming and saving on Windows; indexing should now be mode independent, and reconnected monitors should show the correct monitor
    • NOTE: This means that existing Display Capture sources will be blank until manually configured to avoid displaying wrong displays
  • Added support for encryption and authentication of SRT and RIST output
  • Due to various issues, ScreenCaptureKit display and app capture is disabled on macOS 12; users should update to macOS 13
  • Removed autonumbering on multiview tabs
  • Added ability to mute individual browser docks
  • Added the ability to right-click and “inspect” individual browser docks
  • Changed default simple output NVENC preset to P5 for better compatibility and performance
  • Added support for higher refresh rates in video capture device sources on Windows
  • Add Apple VT hardware encoder to autoconfiguration wizard
  • Improved FFmpeg VA-API enablement by checking device capabilities directly with Libva
  • Various small UX/accessibility tweaks in the UI
  • Improved the speed at which dynamic bitrates recover after a drop
  • Added slide counter to source toolbar when image slideshow is selected
