OpenRGB is an open-source, cross-vendor and cross-platform software for controlling RGB lighting in different devices ranging from GPUs, motherboards, keyboards, mice and other lighting peripherals. OpenRGB is particularly popular with Linux users, where utilities from various vendors lack support for RGB lighting control, and this open source software is also available on macOS and Windows.

OpenRGB 0.8 was officially released today, the largest update the project has ever seen. The new version adds support for a large number of new devices, as well as improvements to its user interface, automatic generation of udev rules, bug fixes, and a host of other improvements.

new function:

  • translation support
    • Automatically detect language from OS or select manually in settings
  • UI cleanup
  • Automatically generate udev rules
  • Improved AMD ADL I2C driver to support more AMD GPUs on Windows
  • Optionally enable SMBus mutex in Windows for compatibility with other hardware management and RGB software accessing SMBus
  • Switched from inpout32 to WinRing0 low-level access library. inpout32 is a good library, but Valorant’s anti-cheat system affects it, while WinRing0 is fine.
    • It is safe to delete input32.dll
  • More Intel chipsets added to Intel SMBus detection

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed brightness inversion handling in UI
  • Due to USB PID/VID reuse, the Sinowealth keyboard controller was having screen splashing issues on some Redragon keyboards, so it has been disabled.

Known issues:

  • Some NVIDIA GPU controllers may not work on Linux due to issues with NVIDIA proprietary drivers
  • Redragon M711 wave effect not working
  • Some Corsair mice do not have specific LED labels
  • Some Razer keyboards lack key mapping
  • Asus addressable channel count may be incorrect
