Blender is a free and open source 3D computer graphics software toolset for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications, VR, and computer games.

Recently, Blender 3.3 was officially released. It is worth noting that Blender 3.3 is a long-term support (LTS) version that provides fixes and updates for two years. The updates in this version are as follows:

  • Initial support for Intel oneAPI backend
  • The AMD HIP backend has been extended to now work with GFX9/Vega hardware on Windows and Linux. As of Blender 3.2, issues with RDNA1 and GFX9/Vega have been resolved to allow Blender to gain wider AMD Radeon GPU support
  • Improved performance of the Apple Metal rendering GPU on macOS
  • OpenVDB volumes are rendered with half-float rather than full-float, resulting in a significantly lower memory footprint
  • NVIDIA’s OptiX denoiser now has better performance when rendering with multiple NVIDIA GPUs
  • Drawing performance has been “greatly improved” when sculpting with EEVEE enabled.
  • The performance of LineArt with oil-based pencils is greatly improved
  • Improved usability of Library Overrides UI/UX
  • JPEG preview thumbnails are created faster and also use less memory. EXR preview thumbnail images should also consume less RAM
  • Various performance improvements for geometry nodes
  • Improved performance for importing USD/Alembic/OBJ files with a large number of objects
  • A new experimental STL importer written in C++ is about 8 times faster than previous STL importers written in Python
  • glTF 2.0 import/export handling improvements
