Cemu is a Nintendo Wii U emulator capable of running most Wii U games and homebrew. It is written in C/C++ and is actively developing new features and fixes to improve compatibility, convenience and usability.

Cemu is currently only available for 64-bit Windows and Linux devices.

It is from version 2.0 that Cemu is officially open sourced on GitHub.

Major changes

  • Cemu is now officially open source
  • Preliminary Linux version is already available, but please note that it is still very preliminary
  • Going forward, we’ve simplified version numbers by using shorter version numbers (2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3…)
  • Updated all dependencies. Most notably SDL (input and motion) and wxWidgets (user interface)

other changes

  • Fixed a crash in the H264 video decoder
  • Made nsysnet crash a bit lower, fixed a crash in Call of Duty: Black Ops II
  • Fixed a log-related crash that could occur under very specific circumstances. In Wind Waker, this happens if the game is left idle on the title screen for 2 minutes.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when the path to Cemu.exe contained unicode characters
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when loading .elf homebrew
  • The Account List in the Title Manager Save Exporter is no longer empty
  • The latency of wiimotes should be a little better now
  • Added symbol/function list for debugger + other small debugger/assembler improvements.
  • Implemented the API: coreinit.FSOpenFileExAsync
  • More internal changes and fixes
  • Made some work to implement stop and restart simulation functionality. Not ready yet, but we’re working on it
